Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership Infrastructure Assessment

Using the power of digital mapping and geospatial tools for modernizing urban infrastructure assessments and inventories.

The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (PDP) collects information describing the quality of infrastructure within the downtown Pittsburgh area. These manual assessments are conducted yearly to semi-yearly, and information from the most the assessment describing the locations, observations, ownership, and other attributes, were being stored in tabular spreadsheets. Manually annotated paper maps showing the locations and corridors of many of these recorded entries were also used in the field.

PDP partnered with CivicMapper to geocode and GIS-enable tabular spreadsheet data to make it easier to perform these types of assessments. CivicMapper helped move infrastructure assessment workflows into a GIS environment that provided better issue tracking capabilities and enabled real-time upload of infrastructure assessments into the GIS using mobile GIS technology.
